Graphene Flagship and the Advanced Materials 2030 Initiative present partnership proposal

The Graphene Flagship and the Advanced Materials 2030 Initiative organised an online workshop to present the progress of their preparatory work and how the proposed partnership is intended to contribute to the “Advanced Materials for Industrial Leadership” initiative.

In the Communication ’Advanced Materials for Industrial Leadership’ published on 27 February 2024, the European Commission emphasised the proposed new co-programmed public-private partnership ‘Innovative Materials for EU’ under Horizon Europe’. This partnership proposal is fully supported by the Advanced Materials 2030 Initiative (AMI2030, steered by EMIRI, EUMAT, SusChem and ManuFuture) and the Graphene Flagship. The two initiatives have been working together to draft a detailed partnership proposal and a first version of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), based on all the input from the relevant stakeholders’ communities. These drafts that have been shared with the European Commission are available here. These will be refined over the coming months, with the aim of having the Partnership officially launched before the end of 2024.

Bringing together 118 academic and industrial partners in 12 research and innovation projects and 1 coordination and support project, the Graphene Flagship initiative will continue to advance Europe’s strategic autonomy in technologies that rely on graphene and other 2D materials. The initiative, which builds on the previous 10-years of the Graphene Flagship, is funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme. The 2D-Experimental Pilot Line, addressing the challenges of upscaling 2D material production processes for the semiconductor industry, is another key component of the Graphene Flagship eco-system.
