EU Funded

Jackie Brown

Jackie Brown is a Project Manager, responsible for the Graphene Flagship’s governing bodies and 2D-EPL project administration. Jackie has two Master’s degrees in Eastern European History and Politics and a BA in History and English Literature (she’s doing her best to become literate in the sciences!). Before joining the Graphene Flagship, she worked for Region Västra Götaland in the Department of Research and Innovation. Jackie is originally from the United States but has been living in Sweden for seven years, where she has learned the art of “fika” and how to survive in the northern latitudes.

Flavia Maia

Flavia Maia is the Graphene Flagship administrator at Chalmers. Flavia has been working with the Flagship since 2015, organising reviews and other meetings, editing the Crew Communication and Onboard. For the past year, she has also been responsible for the ethics deliverables and even more recently has taken up the challenge of updating the SMDB. Flavia is a journalist and has worked as a radio producer and tv reporter in her home country Brazil. She lives in Mölndal with her husband and son, in a house where the radio is always on playing anything from AC/DC to Brazilian MPB!

Sofia Minero

Sofia joined the Graphene Flagship in January 2021 and is the project manager responsible for the 2D-EPL project administration. Before moving to Gothenburg, she used to live in Brussels where she obtained her master’s degree in International Relations and worked for a consultancy specialised in EU policies. Originally from Italy, Sofia is now getting acquainted to her new country, trying to learn Swedish and tasting as many bullar as possible. When she is not catching up with Brussels gossip on Twitter, she is hiking in the forest.

Patricia Huijbers

Patricia Huijbers is a project manager, located at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg. Huijbers works mainly with technical reporting, so every six months she will be in touch about scientific progress, milestones, key performance indicators or deliverables. She also manages the WP&SH Admins network. Before joining the Flagship in July 2019, Patricia was a researcher on antibiotic resistance at Gothenburg University. She enjoys exploring Flagship research and is delighted when graphene and antibiotic resistance collide. Most weekends you can find her roaming the beautiful landscapes of west coast Sweden.

Madeleine Akbas Tesanovic

Madeleine Akbas Tesanovic is the financial officer for the Graphene Flagship. With a Master of Science Degree in Business and Economics and more than 10 years of experience in financial positions at universities, she joined the Graphene Flagship in 2019. After studying a semester in Paris in 2010, she decided to go back at least once a year. A promise she has kept pretty well! When she’s not working, you will most likely find her curled up reading a book. She has previously taken a few literature courses at the University and her to-read list is constantly growing to absurd levels.

Johan Veiga Benesch

Project manager dealing with amendments of grant agreements, taking questions about EU funding rules, and helping out with financial issues and reporting. Johan has for over a decade worked with management of research projects and funding, and European R&D funding and policy support (FP7 and H2020) in academia, industry, and the European Commission. Before that, he was a material scientist with training in biomedical engineering, and PhD & Post-Doc in applied physics and biomaterials. Off work he’s trying to learn about mushrooms and adopting a trial-and-error approach to gardening: if it does not grow, try something else. Without saying, gardening growths one’s grit.

Macarena Muñoz-Ruiz

Macarena Muñoz-Ruiz is the Graphene Flagship Head of Administration. Bachelor in Law and Master's Degree in European Studies, Macarena joined the Graphene Flagship in December 2014. She previously worked for CSIC and the Andalusian Regional Government, and has more than 13-years' experience as Programme and Project Manager of Interreg, European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI), FP6, FP7 and H2020 projects. Macarena collaborated with the Spanish Ministry of Science (2008-2014) as FP7/H2020 National Contact Point, did a secondment at the European Parliament, and has contributed to research on the European Research and Innovation Policy.

Jon Mjölnevik

Jon Mjölnevik is a software developer, responsible for the Graphene Flagship’s administrative software solutions. Jon did his bachelor's degree in Systemvetenskap and his master’s degree in Mobile services. He joined the Graphene Flagship in November 2022. Before joining the Graphene Flagship, he worked for the Chalmers IT Department.
