Technology development and transfer in the semiconductor industry
In this webinar, Luigi Colombo, retired TI Fellow and Adjunct Professor at the university of Texas at Dallas, will review a few examples of technology development, IP generation and technology transfer options in the semiconductor industry. He will also discuss the role of members of the ecosystem and the effect on technology development and transfer.

Luigi Colombo
Luigi Colombo was born in Italy and was educated in the United States where he obtained a B.S. in Physics in 1975, and a Ph.D. in Materials Science in 1980 from the University of Rochester. He joined Texas Instruments (TI) in 1981 where he worked on a variety of materials research and development programs. He now manages the external research and development activities as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas, where in collaboration with several university professors he is developing new device flows for beyond CMOS devices.

The success of the semiconductor industry is largely due to a very rigorous research and development process followed by manufacturing, all helped by the establishment of the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS). The ITRS not only helped the semiconductor industrial members agree on overall precompetitive specifications and standards but also to establish an ecosystem made up of industry, suppliers, universities, and research laboratories. This process and ecosystem have had an extremely broad effect on the creation of an industry that today we could not now be without. Technology development and transfer, and intellectual property (IP) generation are a critical part of this industry. In this presentation Luigi will review a few examples of technology development, IP generation and technology transfer options. He will also discuss the role of members of the ecosystem and the effect on technology development and transfer.
