Advancing Sustainable and Multifunctional Composites for Europe’s Future Industries

As Europe’s leading conference on composite materials and structures, ECCM22 provides an ideal platform for the GIANCE project to present and discuss the next generation of advanced composite technologies. Bringing together experts from industry, research organisations, universities and innovation initiatives, this workshop will explore how graphene-enhanced composites, circular material solutions, self-healing systems and AI-enabled manufacturing can support more sustainable, high-performance and industrially scalable applications across aerospace, automotive and mobility sectors.

About the Workshop

Advanced composite materials are rapidly evolving beyond traditional lightweight performance requirements. Future composite systems must also deliver sustainability, durability, multifunctionality, recyclability and compatibility with digital manufacturing and AI-driven production environments. In line with Horizon Europe priorities, the GIANCE workshop at ECCM22 will examine how innovative composite technologies can contribute to Europe’s industrial competitiveness and support the transition toward circular and sustainable manufacturing.

The workshop will showcase recent developments in graphene-enhanced polymer composites and explore complementary innovations including recyclable and bio-based materials, repairable and self-healing systems, advanced manufacturing processes, digital twins and AI-enabled production technologies. Through a combination of expert presentations and interactive discussion, participants will exchange perspectives on current technological challenges, industrial adoption pathways and future collaboration opportunities across the European composites ecosystem.

Designed as a collaborative networking and knowledge-sharing session, the workshop aims to strengthen connections between industrial stakeholders, research organisations and Horizon Europe projects working on advanced materials, circular manufacturing and sustainable mobility solutions.
