The 2022 Annual Report celebrates a decade of success

The latest edition of the Graphene Flagship Annual Report has now been released. Read it now to learn about our achievements over the past year, plus explore the project's decade of 2D materials innovation.

Our Annual Report serves to highlight the Graphene Flagship's incredible accomplishments and the people behind them. Learn about our Spearhead Projects, dive into the 2D Experimental Pilot Line's first multi project wafer run, and take a look at the Work Packages' progress over the past year and the ten-year journey that got them here.

Over the past decade, the Graphene Flagship has grown from a primarily academic project focused on a single, remarkable material to an increasingly industry-forward project focused on market applications of a whole family of two-dimensional and layered materials. In September 2022 we launched a year-long celebration of the project’s results to highlight the remarkable journey the Graphene Flagship has undertaken.

This year's Annual Report highlights that journey with long-form feature articles exploring future materials, our outreach activities encouraging networking and knowledge transfer beyond the Core project, and business and individual success stories.

While the success stories of the Graphene Flagship spin-off companies, SMEs, graphene producers and large industrial partners provide anecdotal evidence of the project’s accomplishments (see page 56), concrete numbers also show that the Graphene Flagship has outperformed the benchmarks set by the average European-funded research project by a factor of ten. The Graphene Flagship can boast 346 patent applications with 83 patents granted as of September 2022, a volume 13 times higher per 1K€ invested than shorter research projects. Similarly, our more than 4,900 publications and 212,000 citations in academic journals are ten times higher than for a typical project (see Graphene Celebrates 10 on page 4).

We are proud of everything that our community has accomplished over the past year and the decade-long journey that has gotten us where we are. Read the report to share in our celebration of the project's results.
