Six times in a row, Gothenburg has ranked as the world’s most sustainable destination according to the Global Destination Sustainability Index. 

What makes Gothenburg a sustainable destination: 

  • Locally produced, organic, vegan and vegetarian –  there are plenty of sustainable food and drink options
  • Public transport options abound, powered by renewables or leg-power
  • Extensive hiking trail network and dynamic parks that incorporate public opinion and nature
  • Over 90 percent of its hotels are eco-certified

Gothia Towers and Svenska Mässan believe that a good meeting place should not just be ready for the future – it should lead us there. 

Steps towards having a positive impact: 

  • Certified according to ISO 20121 since 2015, with new sustainability strategy implemented in 2022.
  • Members of "Stepping Up Sustainability" a West Sweden joint initiative for sustainable tourism. 
  • Signatories of the UN Global Compact with its 10 principles supporting: human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. 
  • Goal to offer climate-neutral venue and thus gets all energy from renewable wind-generated power; resulting in 5500 tonnes less CO2 emissions per year.
