Graphene’s voice in Europe: what makes Graphene Week unique

Graphene Week, Europe’s most established and impactful graphene conference, has particular relevance in 2023

Graphene Week 2023 is fast approaching – and this year’s event promises to be special.

The annual Graphene Week events are designed to bring together researchers, industry leaders and policymakers from all over Europe to learn from one another and generate new ideas and possibilities for innovating and collaborating. In this sense, these events give voice to those working in graphene, as well as to graphene research as an academic field and integrated partner of industry.

Graphene Week is Europe’s leading graphene conference, bringing together the latest innovations and leading-edge technology and research on graphene and other 2D materials from more than 200 experts related to industry and academia. It has brought value to its participants and to the wider graphene community ever since its first iteration in 2006. Now, in 2023, the Graphene Flagship will be organising the biggest and most exciting Graphene Week yet.

So what makes Graphene Week 2023 so exciting?

This year’s Graphene Week will include all the hallmark qualities that have made this event the most known graphene event in Europe. Graphene Week 2023 will support attendees in learning about new collaboration and business opportunities; providing visibility for their research; learning from others and gaining new research and innovation inspiration; and networking with members of the graphene community from across academia, industry, and governing bodies.

Yet Graphene Week 2023 will also be unique. This year marks not only the Graphene Flagship’s 10-year anniversary celebration, but also the 400th birthday of Graphene Week 2023’s host city, Gothenburg – and celebrations of these two milestones will coincide in Gothenburg in September 2023.

This particular Graphene Week will also be noteworthy for taking place in Gothenburg specifically. Gothenburg has topped the ranking for the world's most sustainable cities five years in a row, and in this way embodies many of the values that also underpin the work of the Graphene Flagship. As the Graphene Flagship has developed over the past decade, we have grown increasingly focused on fostering sustainable research, innovation, and products. We have also worked to further encourage diversity and inclusivity within the graphene community, which aligns with progressive social values evident in Gothenburg and elsewhere throughout Sweden.

Graphene Week 2023 will be held on 4-8 September in Gothenburg, Sweden, and it promises to be a bigger and even more exciting event than any Graphene Week of previous years. It is an event not to be missed – so be sure to sign up!

We are currently accepting abstracts for oral and poster presentations.

For students: one hundred student grants providing a €300 discount on registration will be available to students presenting a poster at the conference! More information can be found here.

For other interested potential attendees – business and industry leaders, scientists, innovators and policymakers – you are also welcome and invited. Sign up for the event here. We look forward to welcoming you to Gothenburg in September!
