IOP Publishing: Peer Review Excellence Workshop
IOP Publishing's 2D Materials Sponsorship at Graphene Week 2024
While the 2D materials community celebrates 20 years since the isolation of graphene, IOP Publishing’s 2D Materials journal celebrates its 10-year anniversary. The journal will mark this occasion with a special contribution to the Graphene Week 2024 conference to be held in Prague, Czech Republic. Join the “Publication and peer review” workshop providing instruction for PhD students and early career researchers on how to make it as an author and a reviewer in journals. IOPP will also organise a focus issue in 2D Materials based on Graphene Week 2024 with contributions from speakers. Authors are welcome to contribute an original research paper, topical review or perspective. The focus issue will be showcased on a dedicated webpage and promoted extensively to the community.
Improving Peer Review
Introducing the Peer Review Excellence workshop, a training and certification programme specifically designed for the physical sciences. This workshop is part of IOP Publishing's acclaimed initiative to enhance the peer review process for reviewers, editors, and authors, aiming to inspire and engage reviewers to provide high-quality reviews.
The workshop mirrors the structure of a comprehensive online course, featuring essential modules on peer review fundamentals, effective review writing, and the ethics of peer review.
Participants will engage in a hands-on breakout exercise, evaluating real reviewer reports submitted to IOP Publishing. This practical approach ensures that attendees can apply the theoretical knowledge gained during the sessions.
Led by Experts
The workshops are led by Kate Porter, a peer review expert from IOP Publishing, accompanied by Cinzia Casiraghi, our peer review ambassador. Peer review ambassadors are senior researchers with extensive experience in peer reviewing manuscripts in the physical sciences and a strong commitment to mentoring the next generation of reviewers. Together, they co-chair the Peer Review Excellence workshops for researchers worldwide. Click here to learn about previous workshop ambassadors.
What participants say:
The presentation was very clear, informative, and helpful. Huge thanks to the organizers. It was very useful to practice what was discussed. Comparing our evaluations with those of actual editors was particularly interesting. Strongly recommend this workshop for early career researchers to gain insights into both reviewing and writing scientific articles. Such workshops will help establish standards that improve the reviewing process.
This workshop offers an opportunity for early career researchers to enhance their peer review skills and join a community dedicated to maintaining high standards in scientific publishing.
