Graphene Flagship Leaders Focus on the Future

The Graphene Flagship management and advisory council gathered in Cambridge for the annual Science and Technology Forum. The Forum was an opportunity to discuss the future directions of the Flagship and define plans for the Core 2 phase.

The Science and Technology Forum was held at Madingley Hall in Cambridge between 15-17 February 2017. The annual forum – comprising the leaders and deputies of each work package and members of the Graphene Flagship Executive Board and Strategic Advisory Council – is the most important strategic meeting for the Graphene Flagship. This year, discussions focused on the strategic planning for the Core 2 phase, that will start in mid-2018.

In line with the Flagship's mission to bring technologies based on graphene and related materials to market, the discussions highlighted the continuing focus on applications-based research and innovation. Key talking points were the new Spearhead Projects to be implemented in Core 2 – joint research initiatives across work packages that will concentrate on demonstrating technologies on a commercially relevant scale.

The Science and Technology Fora provide an opportunity for the Graphene Flagship management to hold in-depth discussions of the directions of the Graphene Flagship, anticipating its needs for future innovation on an international scale. These regular strategic meetings ensure that the Graphene Flagship is making progress with its stated aims of creating a graphene technology hub within Europe.
