Spotlight: Navigating career options with Claudia Backes
During Diversity in Graphene Career Event 2022, Claudia Backes gave a presentation about her career path from her undergraduate years to her current position as Chair Professor of Physical Chemistry of Nanomaterials at the University of Kassel, Germany.
An inspiration for early-career researchers who would like to climb the academic ladder.
Backes has been involved with the Graphene Flagship since her postdoc in Trinity College Dublin, and has a rich variety of experiences and tips to share.
“Always try to make use of opportunities by looking at them with an open mind and using the power of networking. Talk to people, go to conferences, and go abroad if you get a chance. It really helps. And most importantly, be yourself!” says Backes.
