New Graphene Flagship Partners Approved

The task of the Graphene Flagship is to take graphene and related 2D materials from the academic laboratories to the factory floors and into society. As it is now approaching halftime of its journey the course it is following is towards applications and industrialisation of the material and the knowledge gathered through extensive research. The Graphene Flagship consortium of partners from industry and academia is proposed to be updated according to this development to ensure stable value chains that will enable the Flagship to reach its goal.

As a preparation for this new step, an invitation to Expression of Interest was issued by the Graphene Flagship in April 2017, with the purpose of securing specific competences related to 15 defined topics. On July 6 2017, the General Assembly of the Flagship voted in favour of the following 15 new partners to enter the consortium in April 2018.

Bringing together 118 academic and industrial partners in 12 research and innovation projects and 1 coordination and support project, the Graphene Flagship initiative will continue to advance Europe’s strategic autonomy in technologies that rely on graphene and other 2D materials. The initiative, which builds on the previous 10-years of the Graphene Flagship, is funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme. The 2D-Experimental Pilot Line, addressing the challenges of upscaling 2D material production processes for the semiconductor industry, is another key component of the Graphene Flagship eco-system.
