The Innovative Advanced Materials Initiative launched

Register for the new non-profit association that will operate the upcoming European co-programmed partnership: Innovative Advanced Materials for Europe (IAM4EU).

Europe has a strong position in the development of advanced materials, but continuous innovation is key to ensure technological sovereignty and strategic autonomy across the lifecycle of advanced materials.

On 16 July 2024 the Advanced Materials Initiative 2030 and the Graphene Flagship jointly launched the subscription campaign for the Innovative Advanced Materials Initiative (IAM-I, www.iam-i.eu), the new non-profit Association that will operate the upcoming European co-programmed partnership: Innovative Advanced Materials for Europe (IAM4EU).

The ambition of the partnership, driven by IAM-I, is to establish and maintain a cross-sectorial, multidisciplinary, collaborative Europe-wide Research and Innovation ecosystem that will significantly accelerate the time-to-market of sustainable innovative advanced materials (IAMs) and associated technologies designed for a digital circular economy.

IAM-I calls for all stakeholders along industrial value chains and across application sectors relying on advanced materials to register and participate to this visionary initiative. By joining us, you will help accelerate Europe’s innovative advanced materials research and technology development, you will help Europe scale up its innovation and manufacturing capacity and you will help Europe to step up the industrial uptake of innovative advanced materials.

Andrea Ferrari from the Graphene Flagship and co-chair of the Partnership Coordination Panel added, “Graphene and layered materials are prototypical examples of innovative advanced materials. The Graphene Flagship has spearheaded the technology and innovation roadmap that took these from a state of raw potential to a point where they can revolutionise multiple industries. We now join AMI2030 in the new association IAM-I to further widen the horizon of Innovative Advanced Materials in Europe, leveraging contributions from companies, member states and associated countries, and the European Commission, to effect another paradigm shift, and ensure Europe’s research, innovation and industrial leadership in innovative advanced materials for the years to come. I call for all past and present Graphene Flagship partners and associated members to join this exciting new initiative.”

IAM-I will be the common reference for Innovative Advanced Materials in Europe, with a planned General Assembly on 21 October 2024. Do not miss the chance to contribute and make your voice heard.

Bringing together 118 academic and industrial partners in 12 research and innovation projects and 1 coordination and support project, the Graphene Flagship initiative will continue to advance Europe’s strategic autonomy in technologies that rely on graphene and other 2D materials. The initiative, which builds on the previous 10-years of the Graphene Flagship, is funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme. The 2D-Experimental Pilot Line, addressing the challenges of upscaling 2D material production processes for the semiconductor industry, is another key component of the Graphene Flagship eco-system.
