Andrey Turchanin: "New concepts for memory devices"
⏹ What are your expectations for the 2DSPIN-TECH project?
➡️ – I expect that in the synergetic effort we discover new spintronics phenomena and develop new concepts for memory devices, says Andrey Turchanin.
⏹ Why is 2DSPIN-TECH important?
➡️ – It concentrates on new device and material concepts simultaneously contributing to the areas of solid-state physics, material science and engineering.
⏹ What is the unique function of 2D materials in this project?
➡️ – Various quantum phenomena.
⏹ What is Janus materials? What is the function of the materials for spintronics?
➡️ – Janus materials do not exist in the nature; they can be obtained only artificially. Due to the build-in dipole moment they provide a new degree of freedom to manipulate spin in devices.
⏹ What is lateral heterostructure? What properties can be created with lateral heterostructure?
➡️ – In a lateral heterostructure two dissimilar monolayers are stitched together within one atomic plane. Employing 2D semiconducting materials, for example atomically sharp p-n junctions can be created in this way.
⏹ What is your own primary motivation in this project?
➡️ – To contribute with novel 2D materials to the field of spintronics.
