Graphene Week 2022: Where business met science

Graphene Week 2022, held at the awe-inspiring BMW Welt in Munich, Germany 5-9 September, brought together graphene researchers and industry to an unprecedented level.

Bringing together nearly 500 participants from 39 countries, Graphene Week 2022 featured 101 speakers (including 84 oral presentations), 270 poster presentations and 12 exhibitors.

“It was such a pleasure to have the graphene community gathered in one place for this year’s Graphene Week," says Georg Duesberg, chair of Graphene Week from Bundeswehr University Munich. "Not only was it fantastic to discuss the latest research in an inspiring location, the opportunity for everyone to network -- mounted in an evening of Bavarian food, music and dancing -- was a highlight after two years of digital meetings held in front of a computer.”
This edition of Graphene Week featured not just the latest in groundbreaking graphene and related material research, but also a full programme of sessions for industry. The Graphene Innovation Forum, as always, brought together key industrial players discussing real graphene applications and allowing researchers and industry to network and connect.
“Graphene Week this year really served to connect people and ideas. Not only did we have three Physics Nobel Laureates simultaneously attending the conference for the first time, but we also brought together researchers and industry to an unprecedented degree through the Graphene Innovation Forum, Bayern Innovativ, IdTechEx and 2D-EPL workshops," says Elmar Bonaccurso, co-chair of Graphene Week 2022 from AIRBUS. "These networking and knowledge transfer opportunities really set the conference apart.”

Poster perfect

The opportunity to showcase young talent in the graphene community is always a highlight of Graphene Week. This year was no exception, with truly exceptional research illustrated by our 270 poster presenters.
We are proud to announce our best poster for Fundamentals, sponsored by Ketek, Pantelis Bampoulis from Universiteit Twente; best poster for Growth and Processing, sponsored by AIRBUS, Johanna Schirmer from University of Jyväskylä; and our best poster for Applications sponsored by Graphenea, Alexander Storm from Universität Ulm.
The poster awards were presented at Munich's iconic Augustinerkeller where attendees celebrated with traditional Bavarian food, music and dancing.

We can't wait to see everyone in Gothenburg next year for Graphene Week 2023, to be co-chaired by Graphene Flagship Vice-Director Patrik Johansson from Chalmers University of Technology and Anna Andersson from ABB.
