2D-PRINTABLE wraps up with breakthrough results for printable 2D materials electronics

From printable transistors to novel optoelectronic devices, 2D-PRINTABLE has demonstrated how solution-processed 2D materials can enable the next generation of scalable electronic technologies. The project's final results mark an important step towards bringing printable 2D materials devices closer to real-world applications.

The European project 2D-PRINTABLE has officially concluded after three years of research and innovation aimed at advancing printable electronics and optoelectronics based on two-dimensional (2D) materials. Throughout the project, partners developed new approaches to materials discovery, ink formulation, device fabrication and characterisation, helping to strengthen the foundations for future low-cost, scalable 2D materials technologies.

Among the project's key achievements were the successful demonstration of high-performance transistor building blocks based on 2D nanosheets, alongside nanosheet-based photovoltaic, light-emitting and memory devices. The consortium also developed robust fabrication methods for producing high-quality 2D-material heterostructures, paving the way for future advances in printable electronic and optoelectronic devices.

Over its lifetime, 2D-PRINTABLE generated 60 peer-reviewed publications and delivered a wide range of scientific and technological results spanning computational materials discovery, heterostructure development, device engineering and characterisation. The project brought together a multidisciplinary consortium of seven universities and two SMEs across seven European countries.

The project was also showcased at Graphene Week 2026, where several consortium partners presented research advances and discussed how graphene and other 2D materials can transition from the laboratory to commercially viable applications.
