2D-PL @ SEMICON Europa 2026

At SEMICON Europa, the 2D Pilot Line (2D-PL) project showcased its work driving the next phase of Europe’s semiconductor innovation by advancing the integration of 2D materials into photonics and electronics. This initiative focuses on providing end-to-end prototyping services for the integration of graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) into established silicon-based platforms. The 2D-PL aims to bring 2D material (2DM) fabrication closer to industrial readiness by developing and validating processes in a FAB-relevant environment. Its module development is focused on photonic and electronic devices and circuits, addressing the needs of research organisations, SMEs, large companies, integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) and foundries across Europe.

The Graphene Flagship organises a variety of events for researchers, industry and early career researchers in order to inspire you to engage in better research, innovation and collaboration. The project is also represented at external tradeshows and exhibitions.

Seminar: Integration workflows for 2D material-based devices

This seminar will provide a comprehensive overview of the integration workflows adopted by the 2D Pilot Line’s host partners for the fabrication of 2D materials-based electronics and photonics devices. Experts from Graphenea, AMO GmbH, imec, IHP and VTT will illustrate how their facilities enable 2D materials integration by shedding light on the complete device lifecycle, from design conception and CAD implementation to tape-out file creation and testing. Particular focus will be dedicated to graphene photonic devices, manufactured in two 200 mm CMOS-compatible pilot lines, and their key processing stages, such as growth, passivation and contacting. Beyond the device fabrication itself, partners will delve into the development of dedicated process design kits (PDKs) and the implementation of the multi-project wafer (MPW) approach, essential for enabling the systematic design and scalable integration of 2DM-based devices within a foundry-compatible platform.
